Hi Gang!
Hopefully an "easy" problem.
I had some work done on the Win98 portion of my dual Mandrake 7.1 / Win98
machine. The modem had to be replaced and I believe the interrupts may have
moved around.
Now When I boot into Linux ... I'm greeted with a message saying my
Yamaha CD-RW has
Thanks Much Tom!!
That sounds a heck of a lot better than the 40+ pages or so I was trying to
wade through at

"mkbootdisk"
Hi Earl,
I also had a bad file the first time I downloaded the 7.1 install ISO file.
I downloaded the file a second time, cut it to disk, and it worked fine!
(The first disk is serving as a coaster for my diet coke!)
HTH,

The drivers for soundblaster live have been GPL'd since fall '99. This site
will help anyone trying to get the card working in Linux. I just bought a
new card, I'll be trying it tonight once I get home, the explanation on the
site is too easy.

1. any out of the box installation of any OS is not secure.
2. Number of ports open, does not mean more or less security.
I have 22, 21, 113, 80 open all the time, they are left open for a
reason.. for access. If you only access your machine locally, then there is
no reason to keep them open.
you can look in /usr/doc/screen
or do a man screen, or go to sunsite.unc.edu/pub/gnu/screen
and download one of the packages and read the docs.. it's a great program.

btw, if you have a "winmodem" from lucent, you can get it to work in Linux,
Lucent has the drivers on their website. I know 3 people who've gotten them
working.
