Sure no valve checks. The SOHC, chain drive bikes are geared lower, and are quite torquey for a small bike. Both are fun to ride, and I think about equally fast up to about 90 MPH. The only bad part about the 82 is that it is a one year model, and uses some different parts from a standard 650. On
