I've always heard the rumor that it's cheaper due to being a smaller
country so lower infrastructure costs. But I'd love to have that cheap
of service.
Just a bit of critical thinking, This is the internet we are talking about.

I am getting 100 down 40 up unfettered access for $39.95 a month through
TDS in La Vergne. They have fiber running to my house. I was astounded to
find out this was available after buying my new house. I also get tv and
phone over that fiber so there is a small package discount built in there
I am glad to hear TDS has made that leap. When I had ISDN service from
them many years ago they had troubles configuring the switch. It
bothered me many years ago that ATT (at the time Bellsouth) had the
chance to do FTTH and caved to the wishes of the CWA.

That's entirely untrue. There are no federal regulations that limit an
area to two suppliers...
Look at Jackson TN..
JEA for TV, Internet and Phone
Charter for TV, Internet and Phone
ATT for TV, Internet and Phone

I've been doing a little searching and can't find anything supporting the

in Asheville we had choice of cable, DSL or an over-the-air internet. And
horridly laggy options like Hughes.net. Maybe it is no more than two of one
