Idris, if you use Windows 10 then may be your OS has been updated (some
time ago one of host I has access with Windows 10 has been upgraded to
ver. Windows 10 1703) and then you have updated fonts, including
Cambria. AFAIU font cache trac
message. I solved the problem by deleting "font cache"
luatex-cache/context/HASH/fonts
and generating it again
mtxrun --script fonts --reload --force
(may be with '--force' option you may not delete the "cache" but it
didn't hurt anyway).

Actually I don't get what you try to do. I thought that 'font
switching' command should take care of font switching either in math or
text modes (if typescript is set properly). Right now the only good
example of usage of proposed mechanism is \VEC co
ipt and choose what fonts are used in math mode (mm?).
If current typescript (modern?, latin modern?) doesn't have bold greek
letters for math one should define new typescript and use for mm (math)
font which have bold greek letters.
