securing windows 2003 servers...

Hello everyone, What does everyone do to secure windows servers, both controllers and member boxes. Currently we run MBSA and Eeye Retina scans against our boxes but we don't configure the windows firewall on them or the security configurator. Am I doing enough? We run scans once a month on

I ended up with a wipe and rebuild which took less time than doing it with any of the tools available to us at the time. FWIW, after manually removing all the entries finding all the folders and DLL's Symantec put everywhere I promised myself to never put another admin through that he77 by putting

Esxi = free Vmware server = free Im not against MS in any way shape or form, they will end up with a good product and will likely be adopted by a lot of people. I think they have a pretty big battle on their hands here because it will take a lot of people to switch, a game changer if you will.

It was still an interesting read. The long and short of it is that it depends on what you want to do; there are some things Hyper-V does better (or at least as well), and there are some things VMWare does better. In my case, we're a Microsoft shop. Their products do what we need, are very affor

We have been using Symantec products for servers & workstations for a couple of years now. Bought Vipre for the family/test network, seems to work fine. Certainly runs faster, less overhead. However, cannot get rid of Symantec 10.1 or 10.2. Checked the Symantec site and their manual uninstallation

Hyper-V is a huge step up from Virtual Server. I always hated that app. The web based interface blew with teeth. I would love to see Hyper-V written as its own product rather than laid over Windows. One of the things I like about VMware is it only takes about 10-15 minutes to install and itÂ’s s

Um, Microsoft cut the price of Virtual Server to $99, and then gave it away for free, well before VMWare started offering VMWare Server v1.0. You used to have to pay for GSX Server... And VMWare Server doesn't use a hypervisor in any case. Whilst Microsoft's technology might be behind VMWare's -

I've done this and as others have said, the only order to install the OS's is XP, Vista, Ubuntu. If you install Vista first than XP won't recognize the Vista partition and if you install Ubuntu before either Microsoft product then you won't be able to boot into Ubuntu because Microsoft takes over

I seriously doubt it, but....
