We (“AD Team”) control the devices. We do have a CC process in place but, it’s
not required for items such as those you mentioned. Almost sounds like they
should’ve just modified their process somewhat, if that’s the main reason they
dumped the appliances.
The Bluecat has its own CC feature

I do appreciate the info you have shared and I hope we don’t
run into the same problems. It’s been a major process moving from Win to the
Bluecat and I’d HATE to have to reverse everything.

Hi David,
Glad I got the right email address. I mostly sent that message to show you
that mailing list (NT admins that often discuss enterprise level networking
issues). I expect that how well the Bluecat product works is dependent on how
well it is configured and supported. Good luck in

Thanks very much, everyone! I appreciate the help.

Any thoughts on the InfoBlox appliances? A 3-letter gov agency we provide

I'm still trying to get the hang of this. Here's what I need - a

- we have an OU called Disabled where we put disabled user accounts.
There are 4 sub-OUs - Q1, Q2, etc. And what I want is only the

Something like this might help:
get-qaduser|where {$_.dn -match Q2 -and $_.dn -match Q3}

It's a very worthwhile list, with a lower noise ratio than this one,
and some really bright guys, including a couple who inhabit this list.

Good luck with the BLuecat products. We have been working with them for a
couple of years with the end goal of having the Windows DNS and DHCP in that
system. And after 3 years it has not happened and looks like management is
done with trying. So for now it all stays on the Windows side, and
Can you provide any details as to why they decided to stop trying?

Roaming profiles are terribly problematic in any modern environment in my
experience. Profile bloat, profile corruption, load failures - these issues
plague any SBC solution where they are implemented.
As mentioned there are a nation of profile management tools that can address
these issues.
Looking at a new KVM for our racks.
Going to choose between an Avocent AP17KMM (which looks to be very
hard to locate for purchase) and a Tripplite NetDirector B020-016-17.
I love my current Avocent, but it's not made any more.
The Tripplite is quoted to me (after pricing the 16 cables for each
I ran Avocent IP KVMs for years, but just changed over to Tripp Lite late last
year when we built out a new data center and I prefer the Tripp Lites. The
difference in our scenario is that I went with Tripp Lite's 1U 16 port KVMs
which can be daisy-chained and have an IP head put at the front
That's quite interesting. Sounds like Tripplite would be worth it.
The KVM units I'm looking at are non-IP, but the cost for the
Tripplite (with cables) is a bit over $1700.
How on Earth did you get the cost for 4 of them that low?

Three years? Wow. I ran Bluecats a while ago and the conversion was actually
pretty easy. We had a DNS server for both windows and *nix and the dhcp aspect
annoyed the *nix people.
We did eventually switch to infoblox when they came in with a deal which was
too good to ignore.
Check with your reseller on part number B042-016, or check Tripp Lite's site.
Right now through Amazon they are going to $441 per (plus cables but they are
less than $20 apiece). It is the NetController series not the NetDirector. I
really like them, and like I say, you can IP enable your whole
Just looked at the part number - no integrated keyboard/lcd/trackpad.
But, that might not be too much of an issue if I can get the IP head end, too.
