Daniel,
I've used both. I haven't really been pleased with either, but IMHO
Veritas Backup Exec is a "little" better if for nothing else than from a
support perspective
We have used both. We had a lot of problems with ArcserveIT not
finishing jobs and the agents. Switched to Backup Exec about 2 months
ago and haven't had a problem yet. Also, support is much better with
Backup Exec/Veritas than it was with Arcserve.

I've been a Backup Exec bigot for years. The last time I used ArcServe
was on a Novell 3.12 server, so I'm not fully up to date on it.
As for the Veritas line, the best way to describe why I like it to say
that it "thinks" the same way I do. Most operations are pretty intuitive
and their support
Those books on the shelf haven't fallen over since, eh?

Dan,
I've used both Arcserve 6.61 and 2K as well as BENT through v8.6. Your gonna
get an ear full on this subject, but IMHO both pieces of software have their
good points, both have their downsides. It's a matter of what your used to
and how well you know the product.
Some will say Support is bad
Cherry flavoured Pez. Without a doubt.
There is no decision here. ArghServeIT must be scrapped for the more stable
and operable Veritas product.
Without a doubt.

If you have the chance to dump Arcserve do it. I would recommend backing up
to floppies before I would recommend Arcsere to anyone.

Backup Exec is a "little" better
We had the same decision to consider about 6 months ago, and we switched
over to Veritas. We had issues with failed jobs, database corruption,
software "fixes" that did anything but, invalid license keys, and stupid,
clearly unknowledgeable technical support personnel with Arcserve.
Additionally,
Dan,
I have no experience with Veritas but I'm thinking of switching to it.
I've been using Arcservit for some time and I have to agree that their
support really *stinks*. I'm currently using Arcserveit 2000 and was
having a ton of trouble with it. I finally spent 2 hours on the phone
being bum

Backup Exec is a "little" better if for nothing else than from a support
perspective. I believe CA received the "worst support" W2K News Target
award this year for good reason.
I am currently using BENT 8.6 with
