In general, you're going to want to get an N450 or one of the dual core
variety of NetBooks.
I recently got my son a NetBook for his birthday, and you couldn't pay me to
use one of those things for remote support. I'll deal with the weight of a
laptop, thankyouverymuch. The speed is not quite
My daughter has an Acer Aspire, and absolutely hates it.
It is really slow, and she wishes she went for a small notebook instead.

I recently got a ThinkPad X100e because it has a bigger screen than other
netbooks. It's 11.6, which gives a resolution of 1366x768. It's still small
and light, though, and gets decent battery life.

I have an original Dell Mini 9. It ran Win 7 just fine, but visiting web

I bought an HP Mini last year as a family Xmas present, more for the

Overall it's decent for what it's used for, which is mainly WWW surfing.
I did upgrade the RAM to 2GB and upgraded Windows 7 to Ultimate. Word
has been run on it a few times and it's not bad.
I've worked with Netbooks from Dell, Acer, MSI, Lenovo and HP and have come
to the conclusion: they all suck.
I'd much prefer a lower end notebook with a 12-14 screen, higher resolution
than X x 600, built-in CD drive, and normal keyboard for my fat fingers.
That said, my wife loves her cute
Latitude 13, which is really thin and light. I like this
much more. Here are the specs:

Search Newegg for netbooks with the N550 processor. It's dual core with HT

Why is it that they don't shrink the pixels, so we can get real
resolution in a smaller area? I don't see that it would be that hard
to get 1280x1024 in a 10 frame.

Because they're trying to keep costs down. Or markups up. Or some
combination of the above.
