Yes, this is the problem. And it is only upsmon that is not dealing
with ALARM in some way. upsd and drivers are passing it on.

We want the ALARM that the nut driver is
generating, and upsd is passing on - to be acted on in some way by
upsmon. Which NOTIFYCMD is run
Which gets back to the original point I was trying to make. Iy the UPS does a
load test (and I'm pretty certain My SmartUPS can, if enabled), you know the
battery is failing *before* something face-plants, thus *reducing* risk! I test
on all mine, and have never in 15+ years of doing so, had any

We definitely don't want that in this instance either!
Why not? If the battery has a holdup time of 5 minutes w

Hi Spike, I tested the heartbeat proposal on openSUSE 13.1 and 42.2, and
made some changes so that it would work. I wrote out some documentation
which includes the required changes, which you will find at

We definitely don't want that in this instance either! (Unless it is a
dual PS server.) We want the ALARM tha

thank you all for your input. Roger, I'm a nut noob and only marginally
understand the implementation (from your other email), but I really like
the idea of a heartbeat and design wise it makes a lot of sense. I'll see
if I can implement it some time soon.
thank you,
Spike

NUT can only report what the UPS tells it. IE, if no battery/load test is runs
on the UPS, it has no way to know the battery croaked . . . it just sees normal
voltage, and says "100% charge" . . . .
