This afternoon, I spent ~ 2 hours riding Town of Riverhead roads in search of a
Lapland Longspur. Missed it, as well as most of the species that have (because
of our recent heavy snow storm) been found feeding along roadsides. It was a
quiet day, except for the raptors encountered along the way

1- first year Iceland Gull
Gull numbers near 4,000.

At Central Park, in Manhattan (N.Y. City) an Iceland Gull was again at the
Lake, and after taking bread from passersby (tourists, not birders, at about 1
p.m.), the smutty / winter plumage gull moved out to the still-iced-over
portion, nearer to W. 77 Street. A num
On 23rd Street and the FDR -in the cove-there were 6 Red-breasted Mergansers, 1
Bufflehead, 3 Cormorants, 2 Black Ducks, 4 Mallards and 6 Ruddy Ducks (2 in
breeding blue).
Two Peregrine falcons were performing aerial displays on 34th and Second Ave by
the Midtown Tunnel.
Stuyvesant Square (
Six Harlequin Ducks were seen on the east side of the eastern most jetty. They
were there when we left at 12:30.
