on their favorite haunt, the water tower. The next animal I saw was a
large, dark, "buck" White-tailed Deer, who crossed the road ahead of me.

Since I value negative reports just as much as positive ones, I figure I
should post that I did not see the Jones Beach West End II Northern

Shrike like I am.

mixed in with a flock of about 20 Tree Swallows fly by the NW corner
of the parking lot of West End II.
No Shrike as yet but I am still looking.
At 1:15pm today I had the imm. Red Headed Woodpecker at Muttontown Preserve.
From the back porch of the nature center take the trail to your left along the
fence in a southerly direction approx. 75-100 yds. Glenn Mullen. Good luck if
you go.

I went for a quick walk this morning around the various ball fields at the
north end of Inwood Hill Park in northern Manhattan this morning to see if
the small, dark goose was still around. There were no geese on the soccer
fields, but I finally found the Canada Goose flock on the northeast corner
I just received a call from Rich Kelly who reports an immature

about 100 FT south of the Bill Patterson Nature Center.
Good luck if you go and many thanks to Rich for his prompt and detailed report.

Hi all. Interesting goose. I think Lesser Canada Goose, Branta canadensis
parvipes, is a reasonable conclusion for the unusual Inwood Hill bird. Though
usually pale-breasted, they can be quite dark. However, sub-specific
