Apologies - sent too quick - meant to add the duck had a blue band on it's
leg - any ideas what it might be? Thanks.

Hi Everyone,
I stopped by a few spots today - most had the usual suspects - highlights
were:
Jones Beach: flyover Glossy Ibis, 2 Black Skimmers on Coast Guard Sandbar
Bethpage Stables - while horseback riding, saw 2 Red Tailed Hawks -one was
unusually large
Cold Spring Harbor - on the west side
Just a head's up as we enter the the transition between birds in active
migration and breeders, some interesting birds are moving north and east.
It's likely a worthy endeavor to keep checking your local patches.
The latest is a Scissor-tailed Flycatcher in RI.
The Tri-Colored Heron mentioned by City Island Jack was still present Tuesday
morning.
Willlow flycatcher was also audible.

For anyone interested, here are links to Andy Guthrie's photos of the
Kirtland's Warbler, seen one day only, June 1, 2014 at Hamlin Beach State
Park: https://www.flickr.com/photos/44406668@N06/
Also, here is a link to my video of the Kirtland's singing. Sorry, I have
no video of the bird,
I just received a call from Ed Becher who reported a Brown Pelican briefly
touching down in the ocean near field six, but then picked up and kept on
heading east.
Many thanks to Ed for the report and I applaud the folks who continue to
use the list serves for rare and or uncommon bird reports.
For folks on the fence on whether a trip like this might be worth it, check
out the bird that made an unexpected appearance 17 miles east of Gloucester
MA (on the northeast side of Tillies Bank.) See the report here from the 7
seas whale watch website.
