After frustrating birders all weekend the Snowy Owl has reappeared at
Napeague. The bird is on Hicks Island visible from the boat ramp at Napeague.
Also present were 30 Purple Sandpipers at East Hampton main beach. They were
on the jetty 1/4 mile to the left.

Did a fair amount a sea-watching at the basic Montauk spots today (Ditch
Plains, Camp Hero, Montauk Point, Culloden Point) hoping for late alcids or
other seabird migration. Lots of scoters, Common Eider, loons, and Horned
Grebes (29) but few Gannets and not a single alcid of any species. Not

Dear Ladies and Gentlemen,
I seem to have shot the Archduke Ferdinand.
As the majority of my life-birding experience has involved walking around
the abandoned fields and parks of Houston sans binoculars, guidebook or
camera, this whole arena of birders vs. photographers, publicity vs privacy
etc

As of about 11:30 a.m. the Snowy Owl was sitting on the sand next to a log on
the soutern side of Warner Island, the larger sandy island east of the
Ponquogue Bridge. The best vantage point is at the end of Road I which is
between the bridge and the inlet. Wonderful to run into Dianne Taggart

We then moved to the top of a dune in the parking lot across the
street and had an even better
