We had a terrific morning, with some warblers coming in low and close. The

morning to bird Hunter Island and Orchard Beach. It was a comfortable morning
and we walked the loop on Hunter Island to scope the surrounding waters. It was
a relaxed walk and we had a lot of fun.

Yesterday Jack Rothman, Bob DeCandido & I spent a couple of hours birding in
Pelham Bay Park. Jack Rothman had posted the day before (Aug. 9) that
shorebirds were foraging in puddles in the parking lot at Orchard Beach,

For the past few days I’ve been birding the area from Rodman’s Neck to Orchard
Beach, only walking on asphalt paths. The grass is pretty high all around so
anyone visiting should be wary of ticks. Both deer and dog ticks are here.

Highlights: A pleasant and peaceful morning with friends at Goose Creek Marsh
and Bartow-Pell in Pelham Bay Park. Birds: Saltmarsh Sparrow, Pine Warbler,

This morning twenty-five of us walked through Bartow-Pell Mansion Museum
woodlands with CityIslandBirds.
Lots of the usual winter species and a terrific group of walkers on a
spectacular sunny day along the shoreline.
Not much diversity but lots of good looks at close up birds made photographers
Pelham Bay Park has been quite birdy this week. Along the edges of Hunter
Island birds seem to be everywhere.
Park at Orchard Beach and just follow the edges of the grassy areas. There were
very many of most species listed below.

Our walk today had another terrific turnout of friendly people. Birding was

City Island Birds Fall walks. We birded the edges of the Orchard Beach parking
lot from the lagoon to Hunter Island. In the beginning it was tough to move

Although we got off to a late start, Gerry and Eleanor, Alexandra, Bronx
Brendan and I had some great birds and a fun morning, from 9:45 till noon.
Baltimore Orioles and Yellow Warblers were everywhere we looked.
This is the third time I birded Hunter Island this week, each time was
rewarding.
Our City Island Birds club walked Hunter Island this morning on a gray, damp
and cool morning. The “bird of the day” were Baltimore Orioles, which seemed to
all over the island. Interestingly there were no sparrows except for one
White-throat calling in the distance. Special thanks to “Big Bob”
Joe Giunta, Sam Jannazzo and I (Sy Schiff) visited Pelham Bay Park this morning
to look for owls. We found the continuing Barred Owl and Great Horned Owl
sitting on its nest,
Among waterfowl were Brant, Canada Goose, Gadwall, American Wigeon, Amer. Black
Duck, Mallard, Bufflehead, Common Golde
I looked for it today (11/25) without success.

In addition to the Razorbill found by Richard Aracil, there was a Peregrine
Falcon bathing in a puddle in the parking lot and a Barred Owl in the forest.

Spent around 2.5 hours in the Turtle Cove section of Pelham Bay Park yesterday.
When I first arrived, I had a pair of Common Ravens mobbing a Red-tailed Hawk
(I'm guessing the same pair that nested on a building in co-op? I've been
consistently seeing a pair in the park throughout Nove
On a City Island Birds walk today we were treated to a perched immature Bald
Eagle across the lagoon from the crewing platform at Orchard Beach. There was
also an adult Bald eagle flyover in the lagoon.

A tour of Pelham Bay Park with Joanne and Steve, on Saturday afternoon, turned
up a Least Flycatcher, Black and white warbler, Blue-gray Gnatcatcher, many
Osprey and the following birds:

Marsh wren
Immature night heron

After the deluge of rain, minutes before our scheduled walk, a few brave people

Checked out Turtle Cove and the Orchard Beach Lagoon on Saturday. Highlights

100 yards off the northeast corner of Twin Island in Pelham Bay Park, near

Started out at the Pelham Bay Bridge and Turtle Cove. Between the bridge and
Goose Island, I was delighted to see a Common Raven flying southward before
disappearing behind a building in Co-Op City. On 2/7, I saw a Pair of Ravens

(fortunately no wind) and ventured into the woods. While most birds were
scarce, we managed a mix of woodland birds: Red-tailed Hawk, 4 Woodpecker

this morning yielded three very close Northern Harriers, a Red-tailed Hawk and
a cooperative and nearby American Kestrel. These raptors frequent the landfill
regularly this time of the year. We watched for an hour as the
