Hey Kurt, thanks for the info on the Monroe website. I kinda figured that there
must be some info out on the web about custom choosing a particular shock by
mounting specs and length, etc. Especially with the popularity of lower and
raising of vehicles in the last several years. I'll check it ou
my 58 3800 panel had no rear shocks either, but i can't figure out why it would
ever need them. it had 12 inch wide tires that you could get a pinky finger
inbetween the frame and tire or the body and tire, but it never moved enough to
rub.
standard mounts off a 3100 would fit it though, just c
Parts book shows these shocks for the right rear and left rear 1-ton;

Yeah Bill, I agree. I tried to purchase vehicle specific rear shocks for the 53
3800 a long while back and if I remember correctly there was not an exact
listing for the truck. I believe I ended up with a shock listed for a later one
ton GM. I will try again before I go to far on the other front
You might find what shocks are available before fabricating for
a 'really short shock.' ...bill

Casey, I'll probably just continue to fab a mount and see how it works out. I

Casey, I'll probably just continue to fab a mount and see how it works out. I
think I see how they (GM) intentioned the mount and it should be pretty easy to
duplicate once all the measurements are taken. With the straight rear frame
rails of the 3800, it looks like it will require an unusually
Jeff, like you I have a 1953 3800. It also has the lower mounts on the
axle, but no upper frame shock mounts. There are what could be holes
for an upper mount. I checked into this a while back as well. Never
could find what a stock mount was. Let me know what you find if anything.
