It sounds like it's finding the incorrect version of this dll -- perhaps
there's an extra copy of afsrcp.dll (and perhaps others) somewhere on the
system left from the 3.5.x install. Try uninstalling AFS and manually
verifying that it is *completely* gone. Be sure to check the PATH env.
What's ~/.AFSSERVER for? I saw it in a recent truss output:

i believe its used to tell the afs/nfs translator utilities
what machine is providing the translation services.
