the process of updating includes to re-run the installer into a fresh
database.
Also it looks like you missed to configure the hibernate.cfg.xml.

You do the same steps when you update from 1.xx to version 1.3
as when you do re-install.
In version 1.3 there is a new feature called System Backup so from version
1.3 on you can backup the hole system easily from 1.3 to upcoming releases.
But for now you have to re-install and then, stop
