Unfortunately, I don't think we've found a way yet to keep up
with the biweekly release cycle
Diffs between Linux and Solaris and configuring your system for Solaris would
be helpful.
For Java development, if you are using NetBeans, have you looked at some of the
tutorials at http://www.netbeans.org/kb/41/index.html?

Apparently, you have not seen any of HP's thin and light turion64 based
notebooks. They are really good (especially their Lance Armstrong series) and
relatively inexpensive. (If you paid attention to Sunday's ads, you will
definitely get an unmistakable impression that HP has placed big bets on
We plan to push development for the Solaris Companion out into the community,
to serve as a test case for community development for other areas of Solaris.

Yesterday's Inquire has an article about Solaris, entitled Sun's Linux killer
shows promise:

I don't know if anyone mentioned that article here, but it is surprisingly
informative.

Isn't this a duplication of effort, we already have Blastwave. Or is

I see them as complimentary. For example, Blastwave's packages are
supported on S8+, whereas the Companion CD presumably doesn't have

I am entirely happy with the decision by Sun management to bring in
Steve Christensen as the project lead on this. He has been working
with Solaris and the open source software

Possibly, which is why I'd like to see this community-packaged
software effort grow to include everyone. Whether that will be
possible depends on how well we can accomodate varied interests in one
place.

This might be better suited to another board, but if so I dont know which one.
In any case the dialog might be valuable to the community at large. To wit:
I dont fully grasp the semantics of umem_cache_alloc, et al. Some use cases

Heya,
The packages from the companion cd, or blastave or sunfreeware will all be
regular solaris packages. I guess that Steve as gatekeeper will be
responsible for building the actual packages, so the community effort will
be mainly around the source.
However a packaging community would
