Actually, I have a theory that I think might explain what is causing the
problem. I don't think you can use pipes with pfexec because pfexec causes
commands to run in their own privileged shell and that privileged shell won't
go through a pipe (I'm not really a Solaris expert, I'm just guessing

According to the messages I would expect that the box is creating
2 devices for 1 snapshots for your volume.

I have tried getting Java Desktop System (Vermillion) build 111 working on

Seems to work fine in an identical system in x16 slot running Windows.
Compatability wise an x8 card should work in an x16 slot. Tested a different
card - a x1 SATA card in the x16 slot. No issues.

do with the way the box is trying to initialize the IDE 1 which doesn't have
any equipment attached (cdrom is on 0 and intializes cleanly, everything else
is SATA).

I don't think that's a suitable issue for this forum.
I recommend you download the latest "Directory and Naming Services"
Guide for Solaris 10 from http://docs.sun.com. Read the parts of the
LDAP section on attribute mapping. That will give you a clue.
