Hi,
I'm using snv_134 and I've managed to get the VNC 'display' working nicely
within ConsoleKit, but I have noticed that if Xvnc dies (which it does if you
hit the shift-key bug) then it doesn't get restarted.
If I disable and then re-enable consolekit then it starts back up again.
I can't

Most of us that run OpenSolaris rely on Solaris 10 also. We live our day to day
on Solaris 10 and OpenSolaris. As far as I am concerned they go hand in hand
and a major event affecting one of them has ramifications on both. The
discussions that go on on this list are not 100% OpenSolaris but

I'll just reply here for clarity purposes. So after day 90, does Oracle Solaris
10 stop working or hit some limited-feature usage activation?!? Is Oracle
saying to stop using Solaris 10 after 90 days or else we get fined?!?
The two tracks, OpenSolaris and Solaris 10, are not affected the same
None of Sun's or Oracle's actual products has real license keys build into the
software. So, it will not stop nor be feature-reduced!
You only will no longer be allowed to used it. When or if-at-all Oracle
might think about sueing you, is totally unclear... They are entiteld to do
so, but Oracle
Hi Matt,
It's so nice to hear the sound of reason. I can only say good things about the
progress of OpenSolaris thus far and the gift we have of using it freely. So
let's be optimistic which helps create an even better OpenSolaris product and
Community.
Thanks,
Mike

resilient to the FUD and look forward to a bright future!

Hello!
I am really considering to give a talk about OpenSolaris at the Ohio Linux
Fest 2010. Would I need to get special approval for something like this or to
use the trademarks, etc.? Thoughts anyone?

Are you going to tell them to use 2009.06 since everything after that is broken?

Out of curiosity, since OpenSolaris is mostly open binary licenses and not
source code, what would happen if Oracle rescinded those licenses?

Don't spread lies/FUD. Everything after 2009.06 is *not* broken. I've

Frankly, it's no different than using it
Yeah... replacing the legally encumbered bits over time isn't that much of a
stretch. What matters is that the kernel is open-source (which is the heart of
the OS and is the part that makes it stand out apart from Linux and BSD).

I used OpenSolaris from the beginning until build 129. After that I had
problems so I decided not to pursue OpenSolaris any longer.
I was an advocate until I dropped it. I do with you luck though. There are
nice things in it that would serve people well.

It's well known that there are BSD zealots out there who feel threatened by
OpenSolaris and so make a habit of belittling it, so you are not

IMO, SMF is a HUGE plus for OpenSolaris too, I always mention it when talking
about the OS. It really simplifies things after getting your head around the
manifests, and it really brings UNIX into the 21st century, it's great to see
(Open)Solaris achieving that.

Apparently you can't read that I used OpenSolaris since its inception, until
recently. It doesn't mean since I don't currently use it that I can't and
don't follow the project.
Also, you're wrong on the zealots. That's Linux folk.

AIX has had the System Resource Controller (srcmstr) probably since it came
into being (at least since I've used AIX from 4.x forward) and SMF is similar
to srcmstr.
