Hi All.
I tried to start installation of OpenSolaris from usb-flash via GRUB2.
GRUB2 can mount ISO via loopback and use it contents.
my steps:
1. load kernel from loopback mounted ISO
2. load miniroot (boot_archive) from loopback mounted ISO
3. mount usb-flash
4. mount ISO from mounted
I don't get, what you're after... ;-)
There are .usb images available directly from genunix.org, and the tool to put
it onto an USB stick is called USBCOPY.
So, simply grab such an .usb-image, copy it to an USB-stick, and boot off of
that usb-stick directly...

: #mount -F pcfs /dev/dsk/c4t0d0p1 /my_mountpoint
/dev/dsk/c4t0d0p1 is non DOS filesystem
The same usb-flash mounted without error via same cmd.
Why?
mount -F pcfs /dev/dsk/c4t1d0p0:c /my_mountpoint
should work.

Hi all,
I have faced yet another kernel panic that seems to be related to mpt
driver.
This time i was trying to add a new disk to a running system (snv_134)
and this new disk was not being detected...following a tip i ran the
lsitool to reset the bus and this lead to a system panic.

I am thinking of creating OpenSolaris development vmware virtual machine for
Xymon development purpose.
Question is , can I distribute/post OpenSolaris vmware image for public use ?
I think the answer is yes, but still post this question here in case I missed
anything.

Hello,

I'm looking for the same package. I can install with pkg install SUNWgmake...
no problem... but what I really want is to store the SUNWgmake package locally.
And I can't find where to download that package.

You're sure, that the path is the same from the LiveCD and an installed
system?
So, what does format provide as infos for the disk? Which path?
Sadly, I have no further idea, were that might fail...

Support for thin reclamation depends on the SCSI WRITE SAME command; see this

If you use pkg install SomePkgName then the files are stored locally. Look
under /var/pkg/download.
You can disable this by:
pfexec pkg set-property flush-content-cache-on-success True
Have you tried the whole AMP stack? memcached is in there...

Don't know, but I do assume, that in solaris.zlib you'll find drivers and
kernel modules... For example, the pcfs driver? Didn't check, but might be a
reason...

This is too funny. I had Red Hat people in a meeting say that OpenSolaris is
dead.

Thanks, Alan.
I was hoping to find a link where I can download individual packages. The repo
on a stick sounds like a good idea but it's really not what I want. I need
about 20 packages installed (locally) and have been able to download about 25%
of what I need with the remaining 75% just out
What is really funny is that your point has been proven wrong and your only
response is a poor attempt at a low blow. There are more active forums where
you can troll so why here ?

I didn't mention the Linux vendor, but the fact is vendors are saying this to
customers who otherwise might have been thinking of OpenSolaris.
Of course it isn't fact and it is their opinion, but customers are hearing it.
And Oracle stays silent.
