nevermind --- that helped me figure out what was wrong. It wasn't the read only embulum --that light gray ... this was a soldid (glossy) black box with a white padlock in. Afte rfinding permissions that you led me to i sorted it out Thanks again. This message posted from opensolaris.org _

Hi I'm not sure what is getting in the way. I work as "normal" user and files on Pen drive are never a problem. A "lock" only means that a file attribute is "read-only" and generally just forcing it will delete it. If you have a file that you just can't delete, can you provide the following: l

awesome, thanks for the help guys, i've got it sorted. I do have one other question, hope you don't mind: I copied some files from my memory-pen (some were folders), half of these folder had this lock in the top corner. I copied the content into new folders and deleted the 'locked' folders, but

but you see -- i used package manger -- nothing .. it didn't install. I went to the OpenOffice website and FAQ and it told me i need to move it to a folder .. i tried -but it wouldn't give me access saying i need to have admin status! This message posted from opensolaris.org _

You are over-complicating things, all you need to do is fire up the Package Manager and install the OpenOffice package, or from the command line you can do this: $ pfexec pkg install openoffice That's it... This message posted from opensolaris.org

I'm an XP user, and i'm trying to get away from it. I though using OpenSolaris would be a good idea. I partitioned my harddrive for a multiboot of both XP and OpenSolaris. I ordered the LiveCD and after playing around, decided to install it on my new partition. Going through the installation step
