coitran , the window manager metacity is not running. Same thing happened to me. The workaround is to start an xterm or gnome terminal and type the folloing in it: /bin/metacity --replace This will start the window manager and give you the bells and whistles. I even put the command

Hmm, as I understand the problem is that *compiz* is not running, if you disable compiz, then metacity would run by default. See http://bugs.opensolaris.org/view_bug.do?bug_id=6822628 , it shows as fixed in OpenSolaris 2009.06 b111a, I don't know what's the SXCE build this fix went in to... --
