OK, I got that IPS is not available with SXCE. Great! Looks like having a sparc
is no longer supported by Sun. First OpenSolaris isn't available, then SXCE
does not have IPS.
Now my question is: is there any way to install IPS on an SXCE?

Recently I've upgraded one of my machines to OpenSolaris 2009.06; the box has a
few HDD: 1) main with OS, etc and 2) archive and ...
After installing I created users, environment, etc on HDD(1), and then wanted
to mount the existing ZFS for the rest (from (2), etc). And by a mistake, for
I bumped into the same problem and wasted a few CDs before asking the same
question.
The answer is that OpenSolaris can be installed from a CD only on an intel/amd
based server. Then you can use that server to install on sparc.
Since I did not have an intel server to spare I eventually gave up

Anyway, we don't need IDE, but it is also not really possible to turn
it off entirely, seems to be so. We turned it off in BIOS, then we've

We've tried release 2009.06 as well as latest 121 build on CD and USB.
Both of them are stops at the point while checking devices. That's

I just installed open solaris 10 free community edition. I'm working my way
through updates and I also downloaded the companion software dvd- how do I find
out what is on the companion DVD? It all shows up as folders on the DVD with
out descriptions.

Did you specifically choose not to install it? Otherwise it's there
by default. Have you tried such an installation in the past and found
that GNOME is not functional, or is there some other reason you h

try doesn't work, try the other one.
