Just wondering if most people are using Suse 10 OSS RC1 or the 9.3
stable... I would like to try out / review 10, but wanted to see if
there are still some "big" issues unresolved before wiping out my
system... Any recommendations?

At the risk of sounding like a total Suse noob (I'm a long time
Gentooer) but what is "Beta 4" and where do I get that from?

But, just b/c OpenSuse is built on OSS shouldn't mean it has to be
difficult to install/interoperate with non-OSS software or so is my
opinion. Gentoo is good at creating a seamless link in portage. I guess
what it comes down to is that most users are going to install things

Is the torrent down? I can't seem to access it on ftp.suse.com...

Hi all, I just wiped out my Dell 8200 to go back and try Suse 10.0. It's
been a while since I've used Suse (7.0...) and I'm used to my Gentoo
portage (#emerge packagename), I've read that I can setup Suse with
debian's apt-get. Where can I set my repository to get the latest
packages? I'm used to r
Berni, all software has a copyright owner, that owner then licenses the
software... under the GPL... that doesn't mean there is not a copyright
owner. What's your problem/issue? Where does it say you cannot
redistribute? The Suse OSS version is all freely distributable. The GM
version includes
Where did you get this license text from? Is this off the OSS distro or
GM? What's the file location where I can view it?

Does the OSS distro have this license requirement/text? I'm running 10.0

Is there an "official" OpenSuse web forum (like forums.gentoo.org)?
Looking at the forums listed here, it doesn't appear to be an official
OpenSuse forum...

I would say that it was good for Berni to raise the issue: he firmly
believes there's a legal issue for him. We've all responded and provided
fairly prudent input and advice. It's tough to just say "contact someone

Marcel, absolutely not true. I'm an attorney in the U.S. I'm just

Why not "federate" forums... synchronize user bases, threads and start
from there. If you post in one, it's replicated everywhere. That will
bring everyone in...
Regardless as with any community that has formed a large, growing base
opensuse.org needs to have an official forum. I however would

Couple comments:
1)This note:
Novell shall run an openSUSE web forum as a beta-test now.
This Novell-forum relies on commercial software, which was
inadequate in previous releases.
I do truly hope Novell/openSUSE team plan to choose an open source stack to
host this forum. The code is fre

Look at the stats:

Gentoo's forum is huge, very active, and almost any answer can be found
instantly b/c all of the coversations are indexed and reachable via

There is no reason that an openSUSE web forum will not rival any of
the above in terms of usage.
It is possible to integrate mailing lists and forums... this is not a
binary choice. That way an email to the list shows up under the thread
subject in the forum and vice-versa (a post on the forum shoots out to

I see no reason not to at least mirror these mailing list discussions
Yes, but what about SUSE authenticating to a Windows Server using Active

There are many ways to do this ... a few:
