I believe that odd version number is to be expected, and really boils
down to formatting differences. Similarly the old tap-windows (NDIS 5)
driver will report 9.0.0.9 as it's version - in our parlance that
translates to 9.9.x.

I have been using OpenVPN Service to run my clients vpn connections on
Windows 8 and have noticed that they never starts automatically even

I have found that to fix this you need to go into services.msc and in

We should probably update OPENVPN_VERSION to "2.3_git" in the "master"
branch for now, and make it "2.4_alpha1" when that is released. Right
now building 2.3.x installers from the "master
s list using
git-send-email for the final comments (if any), and merged to the
codebase. Älternatively you can just send the patch to this list, like
you did now.

The reason I think your patch should only go to "release/2.3" branch is
that building OpenVPN 2.3.12 with openvpn-build "master" branch makes
little sense due to the incompatible changes made to openvpn.nsi between
2.3.11 and 2.3.12.

Hi,
If I recall correctly, NDIS 5 support was dropped in Windows 8 or early
Windows 10. Tap-windows uses NDIS 5, so it almost certainly does not
work on Windows Server 2016.
