Hi everyone,
I'm looking for information on the culture of Dend. brymerianum. I
understand it is an intermediate/cool growing species, approx medium to
medium-high light levels, but that's all I know. What moisture
requirements does the species have and does it have a pronounced dormant

Hi Folks,
I have a nice bracky hybrid with a tag I can only partially read. I would
appreciate some help deciphering the pollen parent name. Please see a photo of
the tag at http://www.flickr.com/photos/[EMAIL PROTECTED]/2271823435/ .
Also, on my blog I've posted a few photos of display pla
Hi folks,
Where do those of you that ship plants in winter get 60hr heat packs? What
brands are best? I only found one brand called uniheat, and the review I read
states that they stop working below the freezing point. This seems rather
counter productive.
I will appreciate any information
Folks,
Do any of you know the stability of the pesticide Merit in solution?
Also, what is the safest way to dispose of old working stocks of the

Michael,
Actually, I think that should be fine. I grow Masdevallias in my
unheated basement under fluorescent lights and they bloom regularly. My
summer max is approximately as you describe (68-70F) with a winter
average of probably 55F. I don't know what the minimum is, but I think

Thanks to everyone who has responded so far. I've gotten lots of good tips.
I believe now that I've been to delicate with the Macodes, not watering or
feeding quite often enough due to my fear of rotting it, and perhaps not
keeping it warm enough. Those of you growing macodes and anoectochilus,
Folks:
I've always done a rather half-way job of growing my assorted jewel
orchids (Macodes, Anoectochilus; but the Ludisia is indestructible). I
especially have trouble with the macodes, and I just purchased a new one
that I'd like to keep looking fancy. I keep these plants in my basement

Hi everyone,
I purchased a plant a while ago that was labeled nilgherrense, but was
clearly not when it bloomed. It is easily a masdevalliaceum or blumei,
but I really don't know how to tell the difference between the two. Are
these synonyms? If not, can someone point out to me what the defi
Hi everyone,
I have owned a Phal lindeni for several years and it has
never had more than 2 or 3 leaves on it, although it blooms every year. I
grow it mounted on tree fern with a sphagnum pad, and as it has been on that
tree fern since I bought it the roots are fairly well integrated

Hi everyone,
I’ve got thrips worrying my cattleya seedlings. I’ve
sprayed with neem and the formula 409 mix, and have also tried adding a
granular systemic to the pots (“Di-syston”), yet I see continuing
damage. What would everyone suggest I use to kill them?
Thanks in advance.

Hi all,
I've been having trouble with my young cattleya seedlings (only 1-4
months out of flask) getting ravaged by some tiny little bug that looks
like a little black dot off a newsprint. I haven't got a 'scope at home
so that's the best I can do. When I wipe them off with my finger, they

Hi Alan,
I would say go for better root system, for two reasons:
1. In reference to your question of restricting root growth, think
bonsai. A big part of growing bonsai, or basically miniaturized plants,
is restricting root growth and trimming of roots. If a plant with a
large leaf surface are
Hi everyone,
With the exception of OFE, where does everyone order
sphagnum moss? I’ve just about lost my patience with OFE’s
slowness.
Thanks,
