Title: Dijon WOC
Great post David, as some of us actually in the orchid trade said when Paris, France was initially chosen: what a stupid choice for a WOC host country. Of course Paris fell over and Dijon was cobbled together for a weak substitute. Notice how no-one has posted the attendance
Thanks Rik [Neirynck]
for posting a link to the complete lists of the awards attributed at the
WOC in Dijon.
It is certainly interesting to study the lists.
I was glad to see that Brazil and Colombia won awards :

Best Phalaenopsis species (Classes 17 - 18) Phalaenopsis
I note the comments of various contributors regarding the WOC whilst the
report from David Hunt is correct nothing short of a horror
story.there is worse. I know of one commercial orchid grower who was
imprisoned for 3 days on allegation of illegal paph movement before release.
Then when

Not wishing to in any way cast aspersions on a friend and true orchid lover and hoping that the blame for the Dijon experience falls where it should, let me confirm that my previous posting was not in any way critical of Dr. Henry Oakeley. He has been a breath of fresh air on

I can't be accused of affecting registrations at this late date, but brace yourselves for the all time worst organized, least friendly WOC! Run out of England through a stooge in France, it is already disappointing all who have anything to do with it. The weather Gods have also

I don't criticize the Malaysians, they had a wonderful program and

It's very good of Andy to refrain from criticizing KL. The truth is,
he wasn't there, so he's not qualified to comment. And while we're

There was a very interesting posting on the AOS Forum yesterday which seemed to disappear in less than an hour. The writer, using the pseudonym of Eric Young, seemed very well informed on the workings of the WOC Trust and he or she wrote in a take no prisoners style. I
I have been reliably informed that CITES and Phytosanitary Certificates
in Dijon will be
free of charge.
In fact, in
order to travel with orchids, you need phytosanitary and CITES
certificates. Those can be obtained for free at the WOC exhibition. The
instructions will be given at the
Hi Howard,
Thanks for clearing the issue up! I am really

We plan to go to the WOC and thoroughly enjoy ourselves. We hear
lots of good things about Dijon; we know the surrounding area is
wonderful; we have a chance to renew friendships with orchid friends
from all over the world; the lectures look fascinating; we look
forward to the show itself and
Oh brother... here we go.
I haven't heard much in the way of negative feedback about Dijon 2005,
except that it's expensive to get there, and there's bureaucracy
involved in transporting plants, if you're coming from outside the EU.
That's self-evident. Can I safely assume that all is well with
Best wishes to everyone who can go to the WOC in Dijon, we had plans

changes in her company. We were in Miami in 84 and enjoyed it very
much, We enjoyed Vancouver in

Peter,
The Rand must have appreciated at a much faster rate than I was aware if you expect to enjoy good cuisine at reasonable prices around Dijon! Further, it is just over three short years till the Miami WOC and we are already well advanced in the preparation. Those who
I've been reading the posts about the conference in Dijon with

No offence intended to Mr. Easton, but I'm assuming there is a certain
amount of vested interested in promoting the Miami conference as an
alternative, so I would

Couldn't resist pointing out one obvious difference between these WOC
venues that travellers are bound to notice:

Colin, we all know you Aussies love a bet! How about $100, either currency, on whether you or I are correct? To be paid in Miami in March of 2008. The winner to shout a beer!
As for Gavino, I think rumors of his demise are greatly exaggerated. As of last month
