Dear Abby,
This sounds so terrible. I hope your sister can carry on being a strong
mother and get over this terrible set back. It all sounds like something
from the 19th century. This sort of behaviour should be widely publicised
to show that doctors and nurses can't manipulate women just
Congratulations Victoria! I will see you in the Uk in a few years,
hopefully I will start my training too!
See you soon,

Just to miss the point a bit, there is a really good novel about the
terrible state of the meat industry called My year of meat by Jane
Ishiguru.

Dear All,
Can anyone direct me to a good website for Australian stats? I am
interested in the changes in caesar rates, and the changes in infant and
maternal mortality over as long a period as possible.
Thank you,

Dear Diane,
I don't know if anecdotal evidence is what you are after, but my two friends
who have had twins have both been post term. One was very angry after the
event at being actively managed, and the other had a completely natural
birth. The first was with the NHS (UK) and led by an ob,

I am getting really confused about what is happening in South East Health.
On the one hand I spoke to someone at Randwick who said that there was no
movement in introducing homebirth and there didn't look like there would be
any in the near future. Then I hear that some politician is dragging
There are so many stumbling points for the idea of this research I just
can't see how they are going to do it.
How will they be able to randomise women, and what will they do with the
women who cross over from one group to the other, or refuse to be part of
it? How will they manage the

Has anyone else read the article in the smh about the possible research into
vaginal versus caesarian, which is better?
The article is very anti the idea, but does anyone know more about it. I
can't believe there are people with money who could give it for this, there
are so many more
I found this nice article from this weeks UK guardian,

Dear List,
I have organised a picnic in the park called Choices for Childbirth. It is
on Oct 19th, 12 noon at the kids cycle track in Centennial Park. I am
hoping to get a good turnout to highlight women's right to choose where they
have their babies, and their right to have it re-imbursed
You can only go on what your told, and I was told it was the 19th to 26th.

Dear Jo,
I can't really answer any of your questions in detail, but if you do make
the sensible choice and opt for a home birth I am running a home birth
support group in Queens Park. If you want to find out more or your partner
has questions please feel free to give me a ring or come along
I have just started a really good book which I think everyone should read,
it is called Pursuing the Birth Machine by Marsden Wagner. I am only on
the third chapter, but it is amazing to have some of the things I have been
suspicious of confirmed. It's not all in my head after all.

From my one and only issue of the BMJ that I own, there is a reference about
leaving nature to take it's course. I can't remember exactly the right way
of referencing this, but it is BMJ, April 2002, 873-875, Outcome of
expectant management of spontaneous first trimester miscarriage:
