The sub woofer for the z5500 system is about 13" high, 13" wide and 15"

pretty good punch these days. It is no longer necessary to have huge speaker
enclosures as it was years ago. I find that the new generation of speakers
sound bright and clear. Energy makes a good speaker that won't leave yo
Altec Lansing also makes a pretty good speaker as well. What it boils down
to is what the individual prefers. I might like a speaker system with a good
midrange and someone else would prefer a system with no midrange and a lot
of base.
