It's recording capabilities are limited. It's really meant to record notes and has an internal microphone as well as an external mic jack. Where it excels as far as I'm concerned is it's ability to play audible files at variable speed. It also needs no special software to copy files to it

Yes there is a tutorial on the cd that comes with the unit. The unit is also very easy to use so I think you will pick it up quickly. I will warn you the unit doesn't come with a card so you will have to buy one. I just bought 2 four gig s d cards from J R for $29 each so they aren't

A 320kbps mp3 file is good but not as good as a lossless format like wav, flac or lossless wma. You may only notice the short comings of mp3 when you play music back through a good hifi system. Of course, if you've ripped all your music to mp3 then it'll be too late to get that quality back
