Just to add to Matthew's message. The precise version number for the
current build of Sound forge is version 9.0e (build 441). It wouldn't
surprise me if version 10 is being developed because it has been a
couple of years since version 9 was released but this is pure
speculation and I haven't

Hi Bruce. I think what you say will only allow an individual to decide what
he prefers. There is no definitive answer as to what format is superior as
it always depends on what sounds good to any individual's ears. As to the
Technical debate, well one could argue over this until the cows come
Hi folks,
Is it me, or, is Goldwave becoming slower over time.
I am doing some batch conversions on a PC with a quad core processor, loads
of memory and a 0 hardware RAID Array and still, takes as long to complete
the job as it once did on my vallient old P4 box.
Is it GW or, is it the Lame
You are quite correct, of course. I wasn't clear enough in my message.
Thanks for adding this, I totally agree.

I'm finding just the opposite to be the case, personally. I'm finding
Gold Wave, including batch conversions, to be much faster now than it's
ever been.

No, a turntable by itself won't be enough. You need a very high quality
preamplifier to go between the turntable and the PC. You could by a preamp
that handles magnetic cartridges which have a very low output - moving
I will never forget, though, an article I read some time ago about a
study done in Britain. In it, they got together a bunch of die-hard
audiofiles. They used the highes-end equipment, they used the same
speakers and other equipment for all the tests, but they played music
from CD and from vinyl.

It's the new Lame encoder. Saving files to WAV is as fast as ever but
if I save to mp3 it takes at least twice as long as it used to. Wish
there was a way to go back to the earlier Lame encoder but the new
Goldwave won't recognize it and it asks you to get the new one.

Hello, I believe you might be confusing bitrate with kbps. 32kbps is a
pretty average encoding bitrate for mp3s, especially for voice. Most files
are created as 16-bit files, unless you have changed something. I think
you'll find after creating one of these mp3 files that if you look at its
CD architect bundles with Soundforge 9, as you mentioned, earlier in this
thread. I have had very little trouble, with the gaps that you mention, using
Soundforge 6, to create regions, after recording a live show, then exporting to
CD Architect, which automatically adds tracks. I haven't done
Yeah, there is a fairly long learning curve, to Soundforge, to be sure! I
still record in version 6 and cannot go above JAWS 9, to get the right
scrubbing procedures to work -- JAWS 10 just wants to be a bear, most of the
time! So, we probably don't need another version of Soundforge, just to
why don't you same the same fiels reopen them in goldwave and then
convert them in to MP3 that way
