I use my Radio Shack-purchased flash drive all the time without a problem, and they're both much cheaper and capable of larger memory than those produced specifically for NLS program. Just avoid SanDisk, which has files that require a downloaded program to uninstall in order to make it functions

It's my understanding that the library will be putting updates on the book cartridges, so when new updates come out, your player will be updated when you place that cartridge into your player. You can tell if you have the latest firmware by pressing the sleep key 10 times with no cartridge or USB
