hello list. i need a decent digital recorder with decent condenser mike that is
easy to use and makes good recordings of live music performences.any ideas?

Don't want to repeat myself over and over smile but for the price you can't
really go past the Zoom H1 recorder which is available for under $100.00 if you
look around, I've had mine now for nearly 3 years and just wouldn't do without
it, I use it to record everything from live good quality
The Olympus models with voice guidance are probably the most accessible
general-market recorders. I have the LS7. The LS100 is also very good.

Yeah, I'd go with the Olympus ones. Even the LS-7 might do since you don't
seem to be too demanding on sound quality. I recommend this one since it
does 96 KHZ 24 Bit. So does the H1 but my problem is you can't pause whilst
recording.

Before making a final decision, I'd listen to some of the podcasts that Neal
Ewers has done on portable recorders. He's blind, and has reviewed recorders
by Olympus, Sony, Zoom, etc.

I myself would go for the olympus sl14, cause it has very long battery life.
and if I can get one I'd save my zoom h1 for other things.

in my opinion 96.1 khz 24 kbps is overkill for most recording since
humans can't even hear above about 20 khz.

Ah problem is, well as far as the newest ones go anyways, they are gone. The
old ones I had seen there on BCT but Larry told me at the NFB convention
that they are now gone too. He's threw with BCT. Maybe that's a bit of a
strong way to put it, but that's what I took from all what he said.
Ah the Ls 14. Yep, that's a cool one too, it just seemed thqat he didn't
care about going high end. But yeah, from what I've read and stuff, it's
