The issue of optical disk storage fragility has to do with the physical
characteristics of CDs and DVDs. They are made of plastics with various
surface
layerings. I read about this years ago that early commercial CDs were

I have an HP multi-media system at home so my soundcard is fine (I use
Dells at work).
BTW, I would not recommend HP PCs - they have a lot of extraneous add-ins
that cause a lot of problems with JAWS.

I just checked my Dell Optiplex PC. If my memory is correct, there are 3
ports on most sound cards. jacks are color-coded to correspond to the speaker
cable color so it's not something you can figure out by feel.
However, on all my Dells in my computer room, the middle jack of the 3 is
