Blue Ray on Computer

2013-03-08 Thread Max G. Swanson
There must be programs for playback of BlueRay, but will they even indicate the presence of a DVS track? This could be another version of the paradox whereby we have DVS on a SAP channel and no way to sightlessly open said sappy channel. Certainly seems to be the case with Comcast cable boxes.

Blind Cool Tech: Is It Gone?

2013-02-14 Thread Max G. Swanson
The latest Tech Tidbits spoke of BCT as something in the past. Did Larry S. finally get tired of paying the storage? Is the collection preserved somewhere? I'm sure we've all learned a lot from BCT postings. -- And now on to Fiscal Clif 2.0, then 2.01 ETC. Regards, Max! To unsubscribe

Olympus Recorders, Especially the DM-4

2012-12-27 Thread Max G. Swanson
Afraid I'd never attempt using the Olympus multitrack machine, as I've almost given up on the DM-4. Even after running the on-board PDF manual thru Kurzweil, it's been rough going. I'd appreciate any hints on or off-list. There could be a bargain waiting for anyone who has worked around the

re: Recording from APH cassette recorder to Victor Stream

2012-08-10 Thread Max G. Swanson
I bought an attenuator plug from the Shack in hopes of doing just what's described here, and results were awful! The impedances just don't match of something. The Plextalk/Bookport excells at this function, even having a stereo input which the Victor does not. The mic jack on the Stream is

The Creative Labs Issue

2012-07-25 Thread Max G. Swanson
I once asked a tech rep for one of the talkware programs, possibly K1000, if it might not make sense for them to maintain updates of Creative Labs' drivers; after all, it's something we all need and is notoriously tough to obtain. The response was basically, it's not really our job, plus it's a

How to Find Current Winamp Version with Window-Eyes

2012-06-29 Thread Max G. Swanson
I jsut found myself unable to do a very simple thing: Get my current Winamp Standard version and check for an update. Much as I like Jeff Bishop's scripts, the Alt-H goes into some hints for those, while F1 wants me to sign up for AOL. I've always liked Winamp, especially after they abandoned

Questions on Olympus DM-4

2012-02-09 Thread Max G. Swanson
-- We're here, we're unclear, Get used to it! Sign seen at Occupy Wall Street. I tweat as Maxter61 at times. Regards, Max! I purchased this unit a while back and, even after finding a couple tutorials and the manual, questions and issues abound. As an example, File Erase Mode doesn't seem to

Thoughts on Roku

2011-10-08 Thread Max G. Swanson
We have a Roku, and it's a great value but not accessible if that's what you mean. From the sighted perspective, channels aren't organized really well; in fact there are a couple paid programs available to create better browsing environments. Apple TV will give more audio feedback as many of us

Best Olympus Recorder?

2011-10-08 Thread Max G. Swanson
Just looked thru the Product Search App from J.J. Medaugh for Olympus Digital Recorders; there' quite an array. Any recommendations? Stereo would be a plus as well as MP3, but I'm also interested in indexing short notes and messages fed to me via phone. Tried a Plextalk and was disappointed to

Would Like the Addy for OTR-and-related List Recently Started at YahooGroups

2011-04-09 Thread Max G. Swanson
A lister recently announced a new list begun on YahooGroups re OTR and related subjects. I pasted its link into the clipboard but had to reboot. My entire computing life could be defined as a war with the clipboard; so could someone send that -subscribe address my way? Thanks, and when will the

Creating an ITunes Account, Captscha Conundrum!

2010-11-16 Thread Max G. Swanson
We all hate it, even while applauding those that provide workarounds to Catscha. Apple did, but buried in the silence was this: Your browser does not support the audio element. Anybody know what they're doing? I have all major players, even Steve's favorite, Flash. Realizing this is largely a

Any Luck with Radioreference.com

2010-08-06 Thread Max G. Swanson
Has anyone been able to get audio feeds going from RadioReference.com? I've tried with both major browsers and Window-eyes, always come back to the same few links that are more like a homepage. Created an account, but they just want to sell you a premium subscription or a scanner. Have tried

Looking for a Deal on a TV Converter

2010-06-16 Thread Max G. Swanson
Finally dumping cable, so I need one or two A-to-D boxes with decently accessible remotes. Can't even stand paying Comcast $16.76 a month for basic any more. Saw one by Zinwell, but a reviewer said the remote wa tiny and not responsive to the RCA Universal Remote. Please send a C/C of any

Do Listers Really Use Klango 3X

2010-05-14 Thread Max G. Swanson
After being frustrated with the previous version I just downloaded the latest Klango 3, stilll called a beta. It's said to be an audio recorder/player among other things; but is it really usable? At least the last version found my Kate, while this one is stuck on MS Sam. Found a setting for

Organizing Itunes Library

2010-03-02 Thread Max G. Swanson
Does anyone know a quick way to get rid of a bunch of MIDI's that I somehow inherited along with Itunes 9.3 or whatever the latest version is? The only way seems to be performing individual deletes on them from within the library. Barring that, how can I get streams toward the beginning of the

Latest Winamp Version?

2009-04-08 Thread Max G. Swanson
Going over some old PC-Audio digests, which can be a valuable thing to do, I noticed lots of discussion on the Winamp 5.55 beta. Brought home the fact that I've totally lost track of which is the latest Winamp, and/or the most usable overall. Running Wineyes with Jeff Bishop's scripts, but

Working with the Sandisk Sansa-270

2009-02-13 Thread Max G. Swanson
I recently bought a 4GB Sandisk player, the Sansa 270, for $30.00 delivered. Great price, but no manual; and no outboard charger, though the data cable works for that too. Bought it in part for my S.O. to enjoy the video screen and don't expect it to be fully accessible, but all the messages on

Re: Need Help with RAR Files

2009-02-02 Thread Max G. Swanson
I think .RAR is akind of hyperzip, or a superset of the .ZIP format. Have had good luck with the program Winwrar or Winrar having seen it with and without the extra W. There's a liberal evaluation period and it's about $39.00. They actually got back to me on a complaint made during the EVal

My Flash Problem May Be Solved

2008-11-05 Thread Max G. Swanson
This solution may be of interest, as it seems I'm not the only one with Flash9 problems. First, I did run the Uninstall Flashplayer and rebooted. Then searched for Flashplayer 10 on Google and bounced around the Adobe site a bit. After almost downloading a beta version for Solaris I found the

Disappearing Flash9 Player, At Wits' End!

2008-11-03 Thread Max G. Swanson
With lots of audio being funneled thru Flashplayer, I trust this isn't off-topic. The subject line says it all; I keep reinstalling Flash9, and after one use IE7 says there's no Flash Player, at least not the latest one. Since the Activex controls never load right, in spite of Alt-N and the
