Cards are pseudo FAT formatted, and due to their design constraints the way riles get erased, (or for that matter the card gets formatted), unless you go to extraordinary lengths only the directory structure is changed by either of those operations. The only way the data will be over written

Tethered operation of the K20D would work nicely if it tied directly into Live View. Unfortunatly it doesn't seem to do that. (Maybe it does it you set up Live View as your default action on the DOF preview, but I never use it that way). I think that's the way it works with higher end Canon
