If you find the Big dipper and follow the handle from the end to the bowl and then go diagonally across the bowl it should be between the bowl and the horizon, maybe a third of the way up. I was looking under the wrong end of the arc of the handle ... I found an Online Planetarium that shows

According to the article I read in the New York Times, it should be visible in the Northwest about an hour after sunset. Look for the Big Dipper; follow the arc of the handle & it should be 10° above the horizon - that's about the width of your fist viewed at arms length. I'll let y'all know

I doubt the new plant will last long either! Last summer we had to buy some more plants and put them under netting to prevent eggs. We relocated caterpillars there as they grew and opened it up when they were pupating. There's a park not far from me where monarch butterflies stay over winter.
