OK, people are getting confused here... M42 to Pentax K mount adapters work properly WITHOUT losing infinity focus. I've done it, on a bunch of different camera bodies, even a borrowed *istD. In fact, if anything, the M42 lens may focus a bit past infinity, depending on how hard you tighten

you can buy a COTS Pentax K to Maxxum adapter at B&H for $36.95. attaching a M42 to K adapter to that is cheap. i notice they also have a Pentax K to M42 adapter too. no telling how good the optics in the adapter is, but i would not expect great. i have a friend who has the Pentax K to Maxxum
