For the record: My *istD made about 10,000 exposures before we parted our ways. It was perfectly fine in all respects at that time. My K10D made about 23,000 exposures so far and going strong. My K-7 made slightly more than 7,000 exposures as well. No discernible problems just yet. Boris

If I had such a run of bad luck I'd be looking for a common influence. How about a bad SD card that you've used in all the cameras? Do you download the cards with a card reader or by connecting your cameras to your computer (possible bad usb ju-ju)? Do you get funky humidity where you live?

Can't answer as to quality control. For my own personal experience: *ist D X 2 - both with over 50K exposures, both still work. 1 K10D about 25K exposures - still works. 1 K20D about 17K exposures - still works. 1 K-x about 15K exposures - still works. Seems to be about the opposite experience

It's your karma. Only problem I had with my K20D was one hard dust particle that stuck to the sensor. Thanks to the dust alert I'd located it at removed with sticky silicone sticks (or whatever they call these dust removal sticks). And I thought I'd never have to touch sensor low-pass glass again
