So, for the time being I'm staying with photo.net.
Two tips for those frustrated with ads:
I use a flash blocker on my browser, which cuts down on a lot of
annoyance. If the content of the popup is flash based I never see it.
I just hit the dismiss [x] regardless. There are worse places than
Photo.net which use adverts you can't dismiss.
