Hi Olivia
This is one of the Hairy Fungus Beetles (Mycetophagidae) - its name is
*Litargus
connexus*. It's associated with damp conditions and mould, and is not
usually regarded as a serious pest. If you find many of them, then that's
an indicator that you need to address humidity issues.
Best wish

Looks a lot like a ground beetle- they are pretty common (in MN). My
understanding is they are not a "museum pest" (damage collection objects),
but they can die inside and become food for other more serious insects (and
possibly indicates porous building envelope).

Thanks, Tony. It does look like some sort of *Xanthonia. *I checked a
little into leaf beetles that live in my area and *Xanthonia hirsuta *look
a lot like this one.

I am sure this is not *Anthrenus*, and I don't think it's a dermestid at
all. Having said that, I'm not sure which family it is, but it looks very
like one of the *Xanthonia *leaf beetles (Chrysomelidae). If it is
that then it's an accidental visitor.

Hi all,
general. Are you
humidifying the area? Can you increase the air flow.
Good luck.

Does that mean
Does that mean it is attracted to moisture in a space?

Hi All,
I found this bee
Varied and black carpet beetles. You have to find the source of what they are
feeding on. Treatment objects with freezing or anoxia if they have been
infested or grazed on and vacuum everything in sight and out of sight. Inspect
all other at risk objects for signs of infestation or grazing. Chec
Thank you Tony & Casey!
I will definitely be investigating this further and see if I can pinpoint a
source.
All my best,

Hi Crista
You are right to question their identity. Although they are superficially
similar to *Anthrenus verbasci* (Varied Carpet Beetle), these are *Anthrenus

than those of *verbasci*. Like *A. verbasci* they like to feed o

I don't think this is Trogoderma. The colour and pattern of the thorax and
elytra look much more like Anthrenus coloratus. As Rebecca suggests, keep an
eye open for more.
