I'd guess the spring is broken on the outside end. I've done several -

It's been years (decades... ?) since I re-greased a Victrola motor -
can't even find what I used to use so.. anybody got a recommendation

Over the past 10-12 years I've mailed over 7000 packages - two have
gotten lost. And until the past 2-3 years almost all were paid for by
check. Only two "bounced" and both made them good immediately. Which
tells me record/phono collectors are an honest, trustworthy lot - and
the USPS don't
I lost out on $500 'cause I didn't cash a phony $2800 M.O. He was going
to let me keep that (in addition to the $300 for the item) after I
mailed the extra $2000 to his son.
It was well done - the M.O. was drawn on a national bank. But having
STEPPED off the turnip truck I Googled the bank -
ive at all, but if you make a copy for John, a second copy might
be convenient.

What I'd like to hear is if anyone's got an idea of how to get the
mandrel/shaft out WITHOUT taking the mandrel off the shaft... ?
I use a bolt with a bunch of several appropriate sized washers to "pull"
the old bearing out - saves the casting.
