Hello all
I need to rant. I have been made a sucker. I sold my nice mahogany Victrola
XVI in order to buy a Victrola XIV in beautifully grained American Walnut on
Craigslist. The deal was made a few days ago (all documented in email) and I
was set to drive down to San Clemente tomorrow to get i
t was the best thing to do -- people need to be held
accountable for their actions. At least you have a nice new space to put your
next acquisition in!

It isn't a done deal until you appear and money changes hands, and what you
describe isn't really all that out of line. At least she came clean and told
you what was happening. She didn't make you sell the XVI, so although that's
unfortunate, it doesn't apply to the beef you have with her. Rep

John, I hear your frustration. But everything happens for a reason. In the
past, you've said you've made some great finds.
And about replacing your Victrola right nowthat's a
Unfortunate but the deal is not final until pictures of dead presidents
or Ben Franklin change hands. Check or PayPal will not do the job
either. If they refuse teh Pay Pal or do not cash the check you loose.

Thanks to all for your comments, this board is a great place for a discussion!!

I don't know... but I must be one of the biggest fools on this forum.
Whatever happened to the integrity of a verbal handshake? There have been a
few times where somebody came behind me and offered more, one time a LOT

That verbal contract isn't worth the paper it's written on!

I think a lot of us may have seemed to have better luck than most, and better
luck in past days than more recently, because we used to pretty much deal with
other collectors, and only occasionally dealt with people who didn't know much
about what they were selling. Collectors aren't charlatans
Maybe not, but I had it in WRITING!

Years ago a school house Victor appeared in the want-ads for $600. I called
the lady, got her address and went right to her house. I said let me see it.
I paid her cash and loaded it up. I was there less than 10 minutes and I was
gone. You know why.

OK..I've been told by several people, one who could hardly stop
laughing, that I am definitely NOT naieve. So I'll chalk it up to good luck.
I do think it's a sad state of affairs that a person's word means so little
these days.

The level of aggravation involved with selling anything is sufficiently
high that I usually just trash it instead. The general exception is if
I can eBay the item and then if its unique and/or fragile that is a pain
also as the seller is never interested in paying the actual shipping costs.
