You are correct! I visited the clinic yesterday, Sunday, and Wes loaned me
a USB flash drive to complete the task.
In the process working on this problem, I discovered the following truths:
1. When using Rufus to create a bootable USB disk drive, the options given

I was afraid that there wasn't a built in CD/DVD player. Yes, a USB
attached DVD player will look the same as a USB thumb drive. No relief
there.
I assume this is a machine that does not have a BIOS upgrade path?

Hi Rich
Thanks for the reply.
The version of Clear Linux OS that I downloaded is indeed the Live Desktop
DVD disc.
The BIOS is itself the culprit of this dilemma.
And I'm curious about whether or not this is a trend.
As Microsoft becomes more and more disliked for their operating systems.

Hi Tom
Thanks for answering. It is the Escape key. It does the same thing though.

Neil,
While you tried to boot a distro from a USB flash drive for installation,
have you tried a live distro, such as Knoppix, on a USB flash drive? I
wonder if that might boot because it bypasses everything on the hard drive.

I had the pleasure with this laptop in distant past. I hope that I remember
things correctly.
1. The boot menu is accessible through a key not advertised on the screen
at boot time. Not sure how I found it, probably tried Fx, Del, Enter, Esc

Russell there is no error message. The BIOS menu offers no option for
booting into anything except Windows Boot Manager. Based on google
searches, it's a common problem that is fixed by disabling secure boot and
enabling CSM, but it did not help me.

What is the failing behavior? Does anything show up on the screen, any
messages?
Fwiw, I had trouble with a particular brand of USB drive (the no-name
bamboo-cased $5 8GB drives available from MultCoLib), but switching to
random swag from OSCON worked. Even in the failing case, I got some

Yes, people at the Clinic can help with this sort of thing. I would advise
arriving closer to the start time (1pm) to make sure we have enough time to
try all the ideas we come up with :)

Hello PLUG Happy Holidays
This question is for the clinic staff
I have a laptop that I would like to get Clear Linux OS on, and I've been
unable to do that by booting from USB. Does the clinic offer help with
installing a different way? i'm imagining that you would be able to open up
my laptop and
