this is a poll for those who stream AlienBBC on a Ubuntu Dapper box.
Given that Mplayer pre7 hangs after 4'15" and it's the only package
available for Dapper:
1. you are still in the mud
2. found somewhere a pre8 or rc1 package for Dapper (please provide
link)

Thanks for the questions bpa.

The top level entries in AlienBBC are made by the plugin - the next

Yeah, shouldnt be a problem, although the popping up mode might be more
tricky as windows will think the pointer's moved off the tray

The Custom Browse doesn't provide any menu entries when right clicking
in the "Now Playing" menu yet, I have a point on the wish list for this
but haven't got the time to implement it yet.

I also find that if I click on the progress bar, the song changes,
rather than advancing in the same song. Is this a known bug? I use
Windows XP. I'll do some more checking if need be.

My answer is #4, but I got the stopping at 4'15" effect after my upgrade
from dapper as the repository for edgy still seemed to have only mplayer
1.07. My solution was to do 'apt-get update', and 'apt-get install
mplayer' in a terminal which got me a copy of 1.08. After that the
problem went awa

Which player are you using ? I've noticed this with SoftS
Yes, I'm using Softsqueeze 3.3, playing a regular flac file -- no
cuesheet.

Aloha,
I can run the "index.html" file by itself and everything shows up fine.
But I cannot get 6.5.1 / 6.5.2 to recognise SlimFX under Mac OS X
10.3.9. Goes fine with Mac OS X 10.4.x
Anyone who has succesfully managed to install and attach SlimFX to the
SlimServer in Mac OS X 10.3.9? Any sugge
I'm not a geek and I managed to go to RC1.
I did the job with little problems. You must mess with the operating
system for maximum joy.
./configure --enable-gui --enable-largefiles --enable-menu
--prefix=/usr--confdir=/etc/mplayer
make
make install

1. AlienBBC Mplayer standalone test with a Live stream (e.g. radio 4)
This worked well for over 2 hours
2. AlienBBC Mplayer standalone test with a "Listen Again" stream (i.e.
The Archers)
Slower to start than the MS router but did play fully several times.

I have to admit that I didn't test it with 6.5.2 yet, but I doubt it's a
problem w
Try the following.
1. Save a copy of the custom-convert.conf file in the Plugins/Alien
directory in case you need to revert if this change makes no
difference.
2. Using Wordpad (not notepad) edit the custom-convert.conf file in the
Plugins/Alien directory and remove the "-bandwidth 10 " from
Yes! Thanks.. I deleted the directory and installed the .exe version,
and now it works. Thanks again!

The last two comments describe similar behavior. No idea why this would
happen. Basically, the slimfx skin is just an html file that loads up a
SWF (Flash file). (Actually, it uses another frame to load the SWF). I
would expect it to work if any other skins work. I suppose it could be

Thanks for your reply, Michael. I tried your suggestions and, assuming
that I did them
Hi there,
Just blank pages :-( I can actually add whatever I want after the
"/slimfx/html/". It will pretend to load it (directory, .html or .swf),
but nothing actually happens (source is empty).
Seems to be some kind of web-server error...but I dunno why it only
happens on Mac OS X 10.3.9, no
this works great, thanks!

As I said, I am just getting started tagging my classical music, so I am
keen to do it carefully so I dont have to redo it. (I did about 20
CDs, changed course several times, and decided to sit back a while and
be careful about it.) Of course, how one tags depends importantly on
