With Sirius you get what you pay for. Yahoo has a free version, but
the commercial one is much better (commercial free

A Launchcast plugin would certainly appeal to me. Although I have
thought about the problem, I have not been able to get anything to
work. Your analysis seems sound.
At the moment I use Winamp to stream Launchcast to Slimserver/SB3, but
a plug-in would be the ultimate.
