Have you reset the power manager? Ctl/opt/Apple/restart with

Although I haven't had any experience with the 1400's screens, I can
tell you that going from a passive matrix to active matrix on the Duos
is like night and day. Once you use an active matrix LCD you can't go
back to passive ;)
As for sharpness, if anything it's sharper. Sometimes a little too

I can't say about the 1400 displays 'cos I don't have both;
When I upgraded my 520c to the active matrix 540c I was delighted. The
active matrix screen is much easier on the eyes, brighter, sharper, and has
better color.

If there is anything more upsetting than the idea of a PowerBook in the
hands of someone who just doesn't understand it, it is sure the proof of
such a tragedy.

I'm sure it has something to do with the machine having pre-production
ROMs or something. The 'Book is labeled as: Hooper DVT Unit so it's
probably got development ROMs. I've tried every OS from 8.0 to 9.2.1 and
none are acceptable apparently. The 'Book gives an error while booting

Several of the emulators out there include ROM dumping utils. Check out

Sharp, yes. Colour perfect, no. The screen is a bit washed out compared to
a CRT, but no LCD is as good
Yeah, but it already has 2 bids!! The screen looks great. If I upgrade my
