My PB 170 is having problems accessing the hard drive. It'll start up and get the diskette image with a (?). Once in a while after many start ups it will start normally and access the hard drive and OS. Could the hard drive be damaged. Is it likely the hard drive? Could it something else? A

I know there are many favorite PowerBooks on this list but one of the more affordable models used is a 3400. You might be able to come across a low end G3 for $500 but make sure you've got enough RAM. I see you're in Toronto so I'm not sure if your talking American or Canadian dollars. ~tom
