Clae,
Obviously, you are in Australia, so I might be able to suggest another
alternative. I recently bought a powerbook 1400c for the princly sum of
$AU195. (about US$88) I realise this is a little more than both the machines
you mentioned, but after a trade in of your 540 I think you will be

The clear covers are also on eBay regularly. Usually at less than $10.
Just keep checking.

I wouldn't even think of running any 7.xx versions on it unless I just had a

Maybe you have an odd PowerBook 500 series but I just tore mine down to it's
guts to replace a few parts and it used a Torx-8. Just wanted to clarify that
so people didn't get confused.

The display on my 1400 isn't working properly. The screen displays
either solid white or some other strange pattern. I think it's the
small circuit board behind the screen.
Screen prices are very high, but you should be able to pick up an

Hello Everybody,
Forgive me if this is off topic, (it does involve my PB 3400)! I just
recieved a Newton 130 today, and I have been going crazy trying to get it to
communicate with my Powerbook 3400/180. I am running 9.1 on it and I am
trying to get it to work through their serial ports.
Thanks
If you aren't using Appletalk much for other things, getting it set up can
be confusing.
What error do you get, if any?
Easiest way to hook up your MP- turn off Appletalk in the chooser on the
3400 (to make sure the serial port is free). Sometimes you still have to
set it to a different port

Hi!
I used to recommend the 540c to friends with low budgets and not too
high needs. Just a little web surfing, some docs or excel spreadsheets,
etc. These are good introductory computers for them.
However, lately I've been won over by the 190cs. The screen is not as
bad as it sounds
I have two questions:
1. On one side of my powerbook there is a receptacle for my floppy and i

side of the power book is another receptacle with a small opening

Greetings,
Recently, one of the listers posted an investigative query re: the
feasability of running a service that involved their Lind supercharger.
Reach me off list, please.
